So do you want to know what rehearsing is like? Let me lead
you through a few photos of a rehearsal with two weeks to go.
Here (right) we have our own Daddy Warbucks, Peter Wessen, warbling away. When you go to see the show, you may not recognise him - all those fine silver locks will have gone under the barber's razor. And doesn't the room like nice - Board-Walkers helped paint Room 4, just one of many alterations and changes going on to smarten up the Playhouse Theatre.
Looking on (left) are the director and producer. The director is on the
right and it's not so surprising that she has that rapt expression -
she's Ann Wessen, Daddy Warbuck's real life wife. The production
secretary, Carol Magill, on the other hand, is thumbing through a
script, caught up by the great lyrics. Or, more likely, she
is probably wondering what
else of the thousand and one things on every prod sec's list is
still to be done.
In the corner (right), Len Morris (muscial director) is banging out a tune,
appreciated by the lovely Sandy. Well, not quite sandy coloured but
very well behaved, well trained and willing to look into the camera -
what more is needed of a stage dog? As well as double casting the
kids, we've double cast the dogs, but I never managed to get a
photo of the other dog.
Downstairs (left), with evidence of all the DIY that is going on in the background, members of the cast are hanging about. That's what life in the theatre is often about - large periods of hanging around, during rehearsals or off stage waiting for a cue. But when you get on stage and it all comes together, it's more than worth it. Come along to see Annie or join the Board-Walkers and find out for yourself!
